Stretching vs Yoga. Yoga vs Stretching. Is Yoga stretching?

Stretching vs Yoga. Yoga vs Stretching. Is Yoga stretching?

Stretching is Yoga, right? And Yoga is stretching. There are still people who believe that. And all it means is how much exposure someone had to Yoga and how much exposure someone had to stretching. The same way as I have encountered people who believe that Ballet is Dance and Dance is Ballet.

Passive relaxed stretching is just one of many components of Yoga

In reality, stretching or let's say passive relaxed stretching is just one of many components of Yoga. The same way as passive relaxed stretching is one of many ways to stretch. Since so many people confuse Yoga for stretching and stretching for Yoga, it's no surprise that when people want to increase their flexibility, they naturally think “I should do Yoga” because in their mind, that's what Yoga is.

Can you tell if someone is doing Yoga or Stretching?

Increasing someone's flexibility or increasing someone's range of motion. So naturally we have that overlap. When a person is standing with legs straight trying to bend forward. Can you tell if that person is doing stretching or that person is doing Yoga?

Perhaps if they were in some kind of attire or in a Yoga studio, you would say, okay, this is Yoga. If the same person is doing that in jogging attire outside wearing sneakers, perhaps you would say this is stretching.

Hamstrings Flexibility Combo

Hamstrings Flexibility is easy to develop if you are doing it properly. And very difficult to develop if you are not. There are several reasons for this. One being, the fact, that hamstrings stretching is not a one linear type of stretch that fits all the needs of people looking for hamstring flexibility. Try our Hamstrings Flexibility Combo. You can select any of the levels that suit your needs or you may be interested in getting all our hamstrings programs.

Beyond relaxed stretches Yoga has other things to offer.

Beyond relaxed stretches Yoga has breathing techniques, cleansing techniques, mental concentration techniques, philosophy, and many other components. And stretching is not just passive relaxed stretching. It's not even just active stretching.

You may look at the warrior position which is performed by leaning forward while standing on one leg with the torso and the lifted leg parallel to the floor with the arms over the head. Warrior position is an active stretching pose, not passive because the hamstring is loaded.

So technically Yoga is not, as some people may see it, just passive relaxed stretching. However, there are many other types of stretching. Dynamic stretching PNF stretching, Zaichik Stretching Techniques many of which you will see on this page, and so on. Flexibility training is often confused with Yoga. Flexibility training is often confused with stretching as well. If you are familiar with EasyFlexibility, you would know that flexibility training is not just stretching.

Flexibility training is not just stretching. Flexibility training
entails something that supports flexibility.

Flexibility training entails something that supports flexibility. And that is divided into various groups. Strengthening can be for the same muscles being stretched. For the opposite muscles that are being stretched. As well as movement techniques that allow the body to get accustomed to the new ranges that the stretching technique develops. As you can see flexibility training is not just stretching. Just like Yoga is not just stretching. And flexibility training is not the same as Yoga.

The goal of flexibility training is purely to become flexible, safe and fast, and to transfer that flexibility into whatever skill you may want. Whether it's a high side kick or a split, or Penche or backbends, handstands or whatever it might be.

If we are comparing Yoga to pure flexibility training:

If we are comparing Yoga to pure flexibility training: In pure flexibility training there is no spiritual component, there is no chanting, there's no humming, no meditation. All of these components are part of Yoga. And the stretching technique are different as well.

For example, if you compare EasyFlexibility system to Yoga, none of the Zaichik Stretching Techniques look like Yoga, or are performed like in Yoga, and none of them are passive stretching techniques.

Zaichik Stretching Techniques (ZST's) are all designed for fast flexibility. Holding a relaxed stretch as great as it might be for various purposes in Yoga, is not the most effective form of stretching for flexibility. There are many students who practice Yoga for a long time and get benefits, and yet they are not very flexible.

The ultimate goal of Yoga is NOT to get you to become flexible.

If you take Yoga, you have most likely heard your instructor tell you that it doesn't matter how flexible you are, as long as you concentrate on breathing properly and doing the pose, you will get the benefit. And for that reason, the ultimate goal of Yoga is not to get you to become flexible as soon as possible. But the goal of flexibility training program is to get flexible as soon as possible. You may not achieve nirvana, but you will achieve your split because that is the goal.

"What am I looking for? What is my goal?"

So when you are deciding which way to go, ask yourself a question "What am I looking for? What is my goal?" If this is the first time you learned a difference between stretching, flexibility and Yoga, you now have some idea about the differences. Research about yoga vs stretching article talks more about that.

If you just want to stretch because it makes you feel good, then you simply can do the stretches without all the other components that are needed for flexibility gains. And if you want to develop yourself spiritually, you want to learn breathing techniques, cleansing techniques, different ways to balance your chakras, etc., then you would choose Yoga.

However, if you want to get flexible as soon as possible, then you need a balanced flexibility program. A program that will help you achieve your goals as fast as possible, safely and easily. If that is the case then Zaichik Stretching Techniques is the way to go. For more information about EasyFlexibility programs click here to learn more.
